Never answer a behavioural question with a theoretical "I would...". Instead, use the STAR framework to tell a real story:
The four parts
- S, Situation: Set the scene.
- T, Task: What was required.
- A, Action: What you specifically did.
- R, Result: The positive outcome.
Keep it under 2 minutes.
Worked outlines, not scripts
These outlines come from our interview bank. They show the shape of a good answer; the content must come from your own experience, because recruiters can tell the difference.
Tell me about a time you dealt with a difficult customer.
- Situation: A customer was upset about a delay.
- Task: You needed to de-escalate the situation.
- Action: You listened actively, validated their frustration and offered realistic options.
- Result: The customer calmed down and appreciated the transparency.
What this tests: Empathy, calm communication and honesty under pressure.
Avoid: - Blaming the customer. - Promising something you could not deliver. - Telling a story with no clear result.
How would you handle an aggressive passenger?
- Situation: A passenger was raising their voice.
- Task: You needed to maintain safety and calm.
- Action: You kept neutral body language, lowered your own voice, isolated the situation if possible and did not take it personally.
- Result: De-escalation was achieved without affecting other passengers.
What this tests: Composure, safety awareness and respect for other passengers.
Avoid: - Matching the passenger's tone or arguing back. - Handling a safety-relevant situation alone without involving senior crew. - Taking the behaviour personally.
How do you stay calm under high demand?
- Situation: It was a busy restaurant shift.
- Task: Waiting times were long.
- Action: You prioritized tasks, communicated honestly with waiting guests and kept a systematic workflow.
- Result: Quality stayed high despite the volume.
What this tests: Prioritization and how you treat people while under pressure.
Avoid: - Saying you never feel stressed. - Describing panic or chaos with no method.
“Why do you want to be cabin crew?”
Avoid saying "I love traveling". Focus on the structured environment, delivering premium service and enjoying dynamic team environments.
What this tests: Whether you understand cabin crew as a safety-critical service role rather than a travel opportunity.
Avoid: - Answering only "I love traveling and meeting people". - Leading with perks such as free flights or lifestyle. - Giving a generic answer that would suit any airline or any job.
Practising
Write two or three real stories and test each against the four parts. Say them aloud against a timer. Then check whether each story would work for any airline; if it would, add something that shows you know this one.
