Requirements

Etihad Airways requirements in plain language

Required rules can end an application. A person has to confirm the rules marked “Checked by a person”, so we never decide them automatically.

Eligibility
Whether you meet an airline's published minimum criteria, such as age, height or arm reach, education, languages and documents. If you do not, an application usually cannot move.

The rules, one by one

  • Age

    Required

Etihad requires candidates to be at least 21 at the time of application.

  • Height

    Required

Etihad requires a minimum height of 163 cm.

  • English

    Required

Etihad requires fluent written and spoken English.

  • Education

    Required

Etihad requires Grade 12/high-school education or equivalent.

  • Visible tattoos

    Required

Etihad requires no visible tattoos in uniform; cosmetic or bandage coverings are not permitted.

What the stage names mean

These are the words you will meet in the recruitment stages and on the airline's careers page.

Screening
The airline's first review of your application and CV. It decides whether you are invited to the next stage.
Open day
A recruitment event that candidates who meet the criteria may attend, usually after registering in advance. The airline announces it on its own careers page.
Invite-only assessment
A selection event you can attend only after the airline has invited you, usually after your online application passed screening.
Assessment Day
A day of selection where the airline observes you in person. A typical day has a welcome briefing, a group exercise, individual tasks such as English and reach checks, then interviews, but the schedule differs by airline and event. Recruiters watch how you work with others, not only what you say.
Final interview
The last conversation with the airline's panel, usually competency questions about real situations. Your answers are compared with your CV.
Competency questions
Interview questions that ask for a real example from your past, such as “Tell me about a time you calmed an upset customer”. The panel uses your example to judge how you would act on board.

Why applications stall

Common preparation mistakes

ATS (applicant tracking system)
Software that airlines may use to receive, read and sort CVs before a recruiter sees them. Plain layouts are read well; columns, graphics and unusual fonts may be read badly.
Grooming standard
The airline's rules for how crew look in uniform: hair, make-up, nails, jewellery and visible tattoos. Each airline publishes or explains its own.

Mentor support

Work with a mentor

A mentor can work with you on your CV, your application or your Assessment Day. The services page shows what each of the four services includes and what it costs.

Free diagnosis
Skywing's free check: you choose your airline and stage and answer a few questions. The result shows what to work on now, what can wait and whether any service fits.
Mentor
A person who prepares you one to one inside a paid service, for example in practice sessions. Skywing checks each mentor's background; mentors do not work for or speak for any airline.

Pay and benefits

Entitlements
What a job offer lists besides basic pay, such as accommodation, transport or allowances. They differ by airline and contract, so read the offer itself.
Probation
A first period of employment during which the airline reviews your work. Its length and conditions are set in your contract.
